Flirting With Debt

By Kerwin De Matas

We always see articles like these in the magazines, or we see programs on the television where there are families drowning in debt, blah, blah, blah. But what happens when finally you are in those situations, it's just not blah, blah no more, is it? It starts so innocently that sometimes you don't even realize it.

Items that just tempt us...

We ask ourselves sometimes, are we impulsive buyers? It's not a question that can be answered or won't be answered. It's like asking yourself, if you're an alcoholic, and an honest answer would not come. Great, one of our problems or addictions if you want to call it that, THE MALL...., number one culprit of our woes. How many times you would go in the mall and remind your self that you won't get anything, or if you do, you won't spend too much? Ha, fat chance!

So hard to come by, so easy to spend

Imagine, you go into the mall, all the nice things, nice clothes, nice shoes, nice food, the electronic item that is not necessarily needed, but you want it anyway, the pair of shoes you saw in the brochure on offer and it just cannot be passed up. Then, good news, you have credit cards from the department stores, and the sales people telling you, don't worry, get what you like and pay them in one to thirty six months, easy huh? Then, why do you feel so guilty when you leave the stores?

Too much in debt...

But then the guilt goes away, life is good, you have the latest in clothes, electronic appliances, furniture, kids look well dressed, and then...... THE HEADACHE. From one day to the next, you have built up a debt that is simply incredible, wow. You see the bills, and you start scrutinizing them wondering, where the hell, and how the hell you have spent so much, with money you didn't have at hand in the first place.

Flitting in stores like butterflies

The worry kicks in, you realize that the money is getting less, because you have your regular bills to pay also. What to do, simple, get a loan. So for now, your bills are paid, you are in the clear, but with a loan to pay. Then what..... back to the mall!
