Abolished?!

By Kerwin De Matas

Wasn't slavery supposed to be over? ' People smuggling, Debt bondage, contemporary slavery ', these are just a few names for modern day slavery. In these times, there are so many people missing in our societies. Speculations are that they died, or kidnapped for Ransom, maybe ran away with a lover, or just to look for a better life. In the end, most of them are never heard from again..

We Can Help By Keeping Our Eyes Open

What most of us are not being exposed to, is the truth. Yes, a lot of these people could have been taken into one of the huge smuggling rings that is/was operating for years. Belief has it, that when slavery was officially abolished, the human smuggling never stopped! Scary huh? A friend and I was discussing this topic, she told me that this was only a rumor made up by politicians for their political reasons... I don't believe that, I think that this is something that is going on, and operating successively from strategic points all over the world. This is a very worrying topic, because it has been proved that people that appear very ordinary, our next door neighbor even ( if we want to go that extreme! ), could be operating in these circles, targeting our kids, women, men etc.

People Smuggling Ring Leaders

Special attention needs to be put on the safety of our family members and friends, because if nothing of the sort has happened before, doesn't mean that it would never happen. It is said that most of the smuggled persons were taken from Asia, Africa, South America; The latter doesn't make me any more comfortable at all! People that want to migrate for personal reasons; It's all well and good, but be careful of the contacts that some of us tend to make, on getting help with the paper work for visas, places to stay, jobs that were promised etc. Sometimes these very contacts were found out to be in connection with some of the most notorious people smuggling rings. No one would like, after so much money was spent on migrating, to find yourself in another country forced to work as prostitutes, gigolos, working in some sweat shop literally for free, and other unpleasant circumstances.

A Better Life Was Promised

Amnesty International is investigating cases, where many child soldiers were stolen, sold by their own family for supposed economic reasons, I mean, the more I learn from this shitty situation that has been going on now for a very long time, it is just enough to make my stomach queasy.....So we have to wake up from all these naive notions that we might have about us living far away from these realities. Ignoring this contemporary slavery, or what ever they want to call it, would make us just as involved as the criminals going about these atrocities. So we thought that slavery was abolished, then think it over....

In a dramatic denouement to last week's story on modern-day slavery, we learn the fate of Huro, an Indian boy who disappeared from his home village at the age of six and hasn't been seen by his family for more than five years
